Porsche Carrera Cup GB front-runner Paul Rees will step up to the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup later this season to contest the high-profile double-header supporting the US Grand Prix at Austin, Texas (1/2 November).
Rees, who currently lies third in the Carrera Cup GB after a first win at Rockingham earlier in September, joined the championship at the start of the season with In2 Racing after a career in single-seaters.
Three weeks after the Carrera Cup concludes at Brands Hatch, Rees will fly to the US to contest the concluding two races in the Porsche Supercup with the respected MOMO Megatron team.
“I had a call from the team after the win at Rockingham,” said Rees. “My Carrera Cup win at Rockingham was very timely and it is going to be an incredible experience at a great circuit. It is the first time the Supercup has been to Austin, so it will be more of a level playing field, which is good for me.”
Rees hopes that the Supercup will be his next career step. “It is the next level up. I’d like to do Carrera Cup GB again in 2015 and aim to win it. But I’d like to do some Supercup races as well. We were with a lot of Supercup drivers in the Le Mans race this year and we showed well against them.”
In the meantime, Rees is aiming to fend off Victor Jimenez in the battle for third place in the Carrera Cup GB, which concludes at Brands Hatch on 11/12 October.
