Paul Rees set the best time in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB during testing at Brands Hatch today ahead of the final two rounds of the 19-race season.
After a damp morning session, heavy rain left the track very wet for the afternoon session and the prospect of changeable weather has added further to the drama of the title showdown. Rees (In2 Racing) set the pace in the morning session and that proved to be the mark for the day, while championship returnee George Brewster (Welch Motorsport) topped Pro-Am1 and Steven Liquorish (Team Parker Racing) headed Pro-Am2.
As conditions improved towards the end of the first session, Rees grabbed the opportunity to go fastest by 0.165s from Cammish, who made a hugely impressive debut with Team Parker Racing. In the afternoon, Cammish was fastest as he gained experience of the latest type-991 911 GT3 Cup. Victor Jimenez (Redline Racing) was right in contention despite a big spin at Graham Hill Bend in the afternoon, while series returnee Jake Hill (In2 Racing) ran a strong fourth in his first experience of driving the Porsche in the rain.
Webster (Redline Racing) and Meadows (Samsung UHD TV Racing) ran fifth and sixth, both having thoughts of Sunday’s championship-deciding races uppermost in their minds. Webster was also getting his first sight of the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit.
Dan Cammish (Team Parker Racing) second fastest overall: “It’s a great car. I’ve been racing the older model this year, but this is like a different league. Team Parker Racing has given me a great car and it gives you a lot of confidence in the wet.”
Victor Jimenez (Redline Racing) third fastest overall: “I pushed very hard and then pushed too hard at Graham Hill Bend! Maybe the conditions will be similar tomorrow. The team did an excellent job today.”
Jake Hill (In2 Racing) fourth fastest overall: “That’s one of the wettest sessions I’ve ever done and there was a lot of standing water. It was my first time in this car in the wet.”
Michael Meadows (Samsung UHD TV Racing) sixth fastest overall: “The conditions weren’t terrible, but there was no point risking anything. It looks like it will be dry for qualifying, so that will mix it up again.”
George Brewster (Welch Motorsport) first in Pro-Am1: “That was my first run in the new car and it is completely different. It’s just about seat time now and the GT Marques crew gave me a good car.”
Steven Liquorish (Team Parker Racing) first in Pro-Am2: “That was my first time round the Grand Prix circuit in the Porsche so there was a lot to learn and the conditions were not ideal. But it was getting quicker and quicker towards the end of the session.”
