With 18 of 24 hours behind the teams, the new Audi R8 LMS has proved its mettle so far in the Nürburgring 24 hours.
Audi Sport Team WRT has been locked in a fierce battle for first place with BMW after sunrise. Christopher Mies retook the lead in the no 28 car before handing it over to his Belgian team-mate Laurens Vanthoor.
Nicki Thiim in the no 29 sister car entered the top ten with his team-mates Christer Jöns, Pierre Kaffer and Laurens Vanthoor. Six different brands are now represented in the top ten. The top five cars are still on the lead lap.
Meanwhile, the older-generation Audi R8 LMS ultra cars have steadily risen in the standings. The Twin Busch Motorsport car is now 13th and Audi race experience’s all-Asian line up of Congfu Cheng/Marchy Lee/Shaun Thong/Alex Yoong held 15th position.
