Manthey has unveiled a new virtual racing series, the Porsche Esports Endurance Trophy , which is a digital extension of the existing Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring (PETN). Set to commence in December 2023, this online championship will join the fifth season of the Digital Nürburgring Endurance Series (DNLS).
The series will consist of five rounds, using the racing platform iRacing. Each event begins with a 40-minute qualifying session, leading into a race that spans between three to four hours. Competitors will drive the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) within the PEETN class. The team that garners the most points throughout the season will clinch the title of Porsche Esports Endurance Trophy Nürburgring Champion. The rules and additional details for the series are outlined in the DNLS regulations already released for public view.
The inaugural virtual race is scheduled for December 2, 2023, which coincides with the ceremony celebrating the real-world Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring champions at the Porsche Night of Champions. The climax of the first PEETN season will unfold on March 2, 2024, followed by an award ceremony to distribute trophies and prize money to the victors. Shortly thereafter, the actual PETN series will kick off its 2024 season with the first round of the NLS on March 23.
Julia Klee, the Project Manager for Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring, expressed excitement about the addition of the Porsche Esports Endurance Trophy Nürburgring, noting it provides continuous competitive action at the Nürburgring Nordschleife throughout the colder months. This move aims to enrich the current series, allowing participants to hone their skills and vie for a championship even after the Nordschleife season has ended. Klee also anticipates the collaboration with established PETN teams and drivers and welcomes newcomers to virtual racing. The events will be available for viewing on the NLS’s official YouTube and Facebook channels.
The series is also dedicated to nurturing talent, with drivers in the PEETN being offered training sessions in simulators and the chance to interact with seasoned sim racers for skill improvement.
The schedule for the 2023/24 DNLS season is as follows:
