### Porsche wins Indianapolis as AMG seals title

**GMG Racing** won the **Indianapolis 8 Hour** outright with a Pro-Am **Porsche**, the class pairing professional and amateur drivers. **Turner Motorsport**’s **BMW** finished third overall and first in Pro. **Mercedes-AMG Team JMF Motorsports** finished fifth, enough for **Maxime Martin** to become **Intercontinental GT Challenge** (IGTC) drivers’ champion.

Those results extend the customer-team story from [Issue 019](https://www.rennsportreport.com/rsr-intelligence-issue-019/). Porsche has another winning operator to recognise, BMW has further championship success beyond **Team WRT**, and Mercedes-AMG has a decisive finish delivered by JMF. The useful development is a clearer picture of which teams are producing success, and what kind of success each has earned.

## Three different measures of success

[**SRO Motorsports Group**](https://www.intercontinentalgtchallenge.com/news/1995/gmgs-indy-victory-seals-igtc-title-for-porsche-martin-crowned-drivers-champion?ref=rennsportreport.com) identifies GMG’s early stop as pivotal. **Kyle Washington** completed his minimum driving time early, leaving **Riccardo Pera** and **Ayhancan Güven** to handle the rest. Uninterrupted green running rewarded that sequence.

Pace belongs in the explanation too. Güven and Pera lead [**The B Pillar**’s comparison](https://mcusercontent.com/58ec14b624aac0d4f32a73311/files/7de1edd8-9d5b-4407-154c-353fb7596619/TBP%5FReport%5F%5F%5F2026%5FGTWC%5FAmerica%5F%5F%5FR7%5F%5F%5FIndianapolis.01.pdf?ref=rennsportreport.com) of each driver’s fastest half of eligible laps. That selected sample cannot isolate the effects of traffic, tyres or stint timing, but it gives the professionals their share of the credit alongside the strategy call.

For Porsche, GMG adds another winning organisation alongside the recent achievements of **Lionspeed GP** and **Absolute Racing**. That broadens the customer picture. The individual accounts still matter: GMG’s race sequence explains this victory, while Lionspeed’s completed championship provides evidence across a campaign.

Turner’s Pro class win secured the **GT World Challenge America** drivers’ title for **Robby Foley** and **Justin Rothberg**. [SRO records it](https://www.gt-world-challenge-america.com/news/1588/indy-8h-results-gtwca-ims?ref=rennsportreport.com) as their third successive championship, following two Pro-Am titles. The progression matters. Turner has retained a winning partnership through a change of class, rather than simply repeating three identical campaigns.

Issue 019 recognised **Paul Miller Racing**’s professional GT3 championship alongside WRT’s achievements. Turner now adds its own season to that account. The competitions differ, but BMW’s successful teams deserve to be understood through their individual campaigns.

For Martin, fifth overall at Indianapolis supplied the points needed to finish four ahead of **Maro Engel**, who missed the race because of his commitment to the **DTM** sprint series. **Lone Star Racing**’s early retirement removed **Luca Stolz** from contention. JMF brought Martin’s title bid home while GMG won the race.

That gives Mercedes-AMG a concrete outcome beyond **Winward Racing** to recognise. Winward’s successive championships establish repeated achievement across seasons. JMF supplied the decisive finish in Martin’s IGTC campaign. Crediting both accurately helps us ask the next question: which elements of successful preparation and support can be sustained across AMG’s customer teams?

The strongest alternative reading is straightforward. Capable teams made good use of the opportunities available. Driver mix, points carried into the finale, incidents, uninterrupted running and Balance of Performance, the system used to balance competing cars, shape these comparisons. The outcomes support recognition of the teams delivering them. They do not settle how manufacturer support was distributed.

## **Portimão** separates the race from the season

The **European Le Mans Series** (ELMS) finale supplied a useful check on that distinction. **Proton Competition**’s No. 75 Porsche won the GT3-based LMGT3 class, and **High Class Racing** added a separate Porsche podium. **TF Sport**’s **Corvette** took the championship with 88 points, two more than No. 75.

Proton’s cars finished second and fourth in the [final standings](https://elms.alkamelsystems.com/Results/21%5F2026/06%5FAUTODROMO%20DO%20ALGARVE/683%5FEuropean%20Le%20Mans%20Series/zz%5FChampioships/2026%5FELMS%5FLMGT3%5FTEAMS%5FCHAMPIONSHIP%5FAFTER%5FPORTIMAO%5FFINAL.pdf?ref=rennsportreport.com), with **Team Qatar by Iron Lynx**’s Mercedes-AMG third. Porsche can credit two separate teams with podium finishes at Portimão, while the season’s winning campaign belongs to TF Sport.

This is a competitive result for Porsche without being a Porsche championship. Two teams on the podium broaden the evidence of race performance, while Proton’s points finishes show how close its strongest car came to a season title. TF Sport remains the reference for championship conversion.

## Separate drivers for overlapping commitments

SRO moved the **GT World Challenge Europe** finale at Portimão to Saturday 17 October to help accommodate the **FIA World Endurance Championship** (WEC) **6 Hours of Barcelona** on Sunday 18 October. The races are on different days, but the rearrangement has not removed BMW’s need to allocate drivers.

[**Dan Harper** says](https://x.com/DanHarperRacing/status/2109949091233087510?ref=rennsportreport.com) the WEC clash means he will miss Portimão. Barcelona’s provisional entry lists him in WRT’s No. 69 BMW. Portimão’s entry lists **Neil Verhagen** with **Max Hesse** and **Valentino Rossi** in No. 46, a substitution BMW [announced on 27 September](https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/deutschland/article/detail/T0461052DE/fia-wec:-bmw-m-team-wrt-in-fuji-erneut-auf-dem-podium-32-bmw-m4-gt3-evo-feiert-lmgt3-triumph?ref=rennsportreport.com).

The clash has changed a crew, and BMW announced cover in advance. That may be ordinary planning working as intended. Both programmes have named driver allocations, although successful execution remains to be seen. The substitution establishes neither a shortage of engineers nor a competitive penalty.

The weekend should give us more than a comparison of finishing positions. What preparation does Verhagen receive, how does the revised crew execute its race, and what operational support is available to each programme? A poor result would need its own explanation before it could be attributed to the clash.

Our judgement is that success across more teams deserves recognition before every support mechanism is known. Indianapolis strengthens that view. The harder test is whether teams can sustain delivery when drivers and programmes change. Barcelona and Portimão will provide the next evidence of execution, while our reporting examines what makes it repeatable.

Our first Monday Briefing covers the DTM, Indianapolis and ELMS finales. [Listen to Monday Briefing 001](https://www.rennsportreport.com/monday-briefing-001-preining-crowned-porsche-wins-indy/).

Results note: the Indianapolis race classification remains provisional. The ELMS race and points records are final.
